Hello,

Thanks to Alberto Morillo for the first step...

Now during the Upgrade process I am getting an error:

Upgrade SQL Server 2008 SP1 to SQL Server 2008 R2

TITLE: Message Details
------------------------------

The Instance ID 'MSSQLSERVER' is already in use by SQL Server instance 'MSSQLSERVER.INACTIVE'. To continue, specify a unique Instance ID.

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

As it is an upgrade from MSSQLSERVER 10.1.2531.0 it should be able to take the same instance...

Any idea?

Thanks,
Dom

SQL Server 2012 Developer Installation Failure - Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the app

I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Developer on a PC running Windows 8  Enterprise x64.

During the installation it showed that all prerequisites were met.

The installation proceeds about 2/3 of the through then displays a message box indicating

"Cannot find one or more components.  Please reinstall the applications.

The title bar for the message box indicates SQL Server Management Studio.

I tired completely uninstall and reinstalling.

I even tried unchecking the SP1 option during the installation but it made not differe4nce whatsoever.

I am installing a default instance and there is no upgrade involved.

Visual Studio 2010 and Visual Studio 2012 are also installed along with their latest service pack.

Windows 8 Enterprise also has all of the patches installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been installing SQL Server Developer since 2000 and this is the first time where I have failed to get it installed.

SQL Server 2012 Installation Error: ...\Support2008\sqlsupport.msi

On Win7 Home Premium SP1: Tried both SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU and SQLEXPR_x64_ENU SQL Server 2012 pkgs with same error. At one time had SQL Server 2008 on this system and thought I had cleaned it up sufficiently. But, for some reason, the installer launches the sqlsupport.msi in the \Support2008 directory instead of the \sqlsupport_msi folder. I have spent DAYS trying to install SQL Server 2012 and am very frustrated. Here is the error reported during installation:

Can anyone help? Anyone seen this before? Let me know if you need more info

How to Choose SQL Server Version?

Hi All,

I want to know how can I choose the Version of SQL Server 2012 with the number of connection?

I have read lots of information and this link maybe closest:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143760.aspx

But I really want to know the result in a simple way, such as if more than 1000 people will be access with the SQL Server, I will need to choose the Standard version.

Can some one give me the suggestions like this to choose the version of SQL server.

No code, No fact.

Unable to Install SQL Server 2012 Express

I downloaded SQL Server 2012 Express about 3 weeks ago. (ENU\x86\SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe) (707.1MB). Still not up and running. MS Books On-Line (user manual) not very helpful!. Purchased Robin Dewson's Book (Beginning SQL Server 2012 for Developers. Pub. by Apress). This book looks good but doesn't help much either with regard to installation. Robin uses the SQL Server 2012 Standard edition to install so I wonder whether Robin ever downloaded the Express version and tried to install it from the 'Installation Center' which he mentions from time to time and that the installation procedure in the book is still relevent to the Express version , albeit with limited features. Not so, so far! There are subtle differences.

My installation effort resulted in :

- Database Engine Service........... Failed

- SQL Server Replication ............. Failed

- SQL Browser ........................... Succeeded

- SQL Writer .............................. Succeeded

Note 1. I'm pretty sure my problems are not hardware related as I have a fairly new machine running Windows 7 premium home edition with

a good all round spec. (32bit o/s)

Note2. I have an error report log .txt which may mean something to someone at MS. Available on request.

Q1. Does anyone out there know how to get hold of reliable Step-by-Step instructions on installing the said software?

Q2. How do I un-install SQL Server 2012 Express to start again.

Q3. Rather than use a download version how do I get a media version, on CD for example?

Hope you can help with some of these issues. Thanks.

Possible authority issue after SQL Server 2008 install?

From  the services log {Computer/Manage/Services} my SQLExpress instance appears to be running. From a Cmd window, the cmd "sqlcmd -L" shows the instance is running. But, the command "sc query SQLExpress" yields "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". Querying SQLWriter and SQLBrowser is successful. Result is I have no access to my instance SQLExpress.

I think I may have an access issue. Any thoughts?

Impact of OS upgradation Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 on already installed SQL Server 2008 & 2008 R2

Hello

We are planning to upgrade all the systems running on OS Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012.

On these systems, either SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 were installed.

There is no plan to upgrade SQL server on any of the servers.

As such, please let me know if there is any impact on SQL Server due to this OS upgradation. If yes, do let me know the details.

MS SQL Server 2012 Install Fails

Hi All, I got the following message when trying to install MS SQL Server 2012

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2012  Setup
------------------------------

The following error has occurred:

Could not find the Database Engine startup handle.

Any Ideas?

2012 Dev installation passes .NET framework check then fails because .NET Framework doesn't exist.

On a newly imaged Win & enterprise x64 with SP1 machine I am trying to install SQL 2012 Developer. The prerequisite check works fine and it sees that I have 3.5.1 installed as well as 4.5 but during installation I get failures like

"CLR Types requires the .NET Framework version 2.0 or 3.0 or 3.5 or 4.0. Ensure this requirement is fulfilled before installing Micorsoft SQL Sever System CLR types"

I've done this a half dozen times and downloaded a new ISO with no joy.

What logs should I dig into? When I look at detail.txt I get information overload.

Thanks

We have installed SQL server 2008 on a windows server 2008 standard OS. Everything is working without any issues. However, when I check the event viewer -> Windows logs -> Application, I see the following message every 60 seconds.

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors.

SQl service (SQL server, SQL server agent, SQL server VSS write) are set to run using "Local System". Rest of the service are set to run as Local Service".

So far we have no issues with the server as everyting is working as they should, but I am concerenc about this message that shows up every 60 seconds. Againm the message is niether an error nor a warning. It's just an information.

My issues is we have installed an HL7 engine on this server. When ever we re-start the server, the HL7 engine is not starting up. This engine is configurred to connect to the SQL server to get all the required channel information.

So my question is should I be worried? If so are there any solutions to fix this?

I just tried to install the SQL 2012 upgrade advisor on my SQL 2008 R 2 box and I got an error telling me that setup is missing prerequisits.  It says that Transact-SQL ScriptDom is missing and that I have to go tohttp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=216742 to get it.  But, when I go to that url, I get a 404 error.  Where do I get the stuff I need for the upgrade advisor?

Thanks

TDS network traffic

Not sure if this is the proper forum but here goes. While doing a wireshark capture from my local PC (Windows 7 Pro) I noticed a flood of TDS traffic from a server running SQL 2008 R2. The capture would show a query from the client side and a response from the server. So I ran wireshark on the server in question and was seeing the same traffic to my local PC as well as another PC on the LAN. Now trying to figure out what is going on with these two PC's and the SQL server. It looks like its just a back and forth, remote procedure call and a acknowledgment between the two. It's using the standard port on the server of 1433. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to take this to the next step in isolating what is going on between them.

As soon as I turn off the server and take a new wireshark capture on my PC, I just see the normal broadcast traffic you would expect to see. But if the server is on, then I'm flooded with TDS traffic between the two, to the point I can not see any broadcast traffic at all in the capture. I know this might be a shot in the dark, but any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 R2 - Cumulative update & Express

I need to do an upgrade from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2008 R2 CU1. We have express in development and QA but non-express in production. Is the download to go to CU1 the same download for express as it is for non-express?

Also, what file do I download - when I go to the download page, I can't tell what fix name to download. What is the difference between 2008R2_SP2 and SQLServer2008R2_SP2 - aren't they both sql server? And I don't understand the MDS, SNAC and RSShrPnt?  Thanks.
