SQLEXPRESS instance corrupted by VS2012 install on machine with SQL Server 2008 R2?

$

Hi,

I previously installed SQL Server 2008 R2 (and SP1) on my machine to do database design work. I used it successfully multiple times. I then installed Visual Studio 2012 (Premium) accepting all the defaults so it installed the datbase components.

I have some sample projects for a new developer toolkit I am evaluating that has connection strings that use .\SQLEXPRESS - the connections fail. I cannot connect to the <computer name>\SQLEXPRESS database engine using SSMS. I do not see any services running on the machine showing (SQLEXPRESS); only (MSSQLSERVER).

Do I need to install SQLEXPRESS on my machine if I want to leave the sample projects the same and not move the data into SQL Server? I am familiar with attaching mdf files, etc and could go that route but I am trying to determine if VS 2012 installs any version of SQL Express? I am not sure if it does and it got corrupted or if it does not install it. I saw another thread that mentions that VS2012 uses LS and does not use SQL Server instances the same way so is LS installed and NOT SQLEXPRESS? NOTE I have been messing with VS2012 for a day now so do not know anything about LS...

Thanks,

Richard

Need MSFT help for SQL Server Version choosing

I'm not sure where is the correct forum to post my thread. so I post it here, and please move this thread to correct forum if  some Moderators have good suggestions. :)

I need help for choosing another version of SQL server, here is my situation:

 1. I have more than 600 Ports to connect with the SQL server. And SQL server will deal with more than 3000 complicating events at the same tim .

2.Also I need to do some backup action at the the same time.

3. Right now, I'm using the standard version, but still will get the error (failed to do the event).

So I need the suggestions about what is the suitable version of SQL Server to cover my issue.

I'm looking for MSFT with rich experience to solve my issue.

Create a proxy account on my workstation failed

On my window 7 I am trying to create a proxy account for using SQL agent job to schedule a power shell script to run.

In SQL server, I created a credential using my own account (dba) and create a powershell proxy,

Then I created a sql agent job to run the powershell using the proxy, I get an error:

Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy mydomain\myusername, system error: Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. ('Access this computer from network')).  The step failed.

What does this mean, does this mean the proxy account will login to my computer from network?

I did check local policy setting, the setting for access this computer from network is setup for some network operators who did  the installation of windows, but I am the administrator of the box, why cann't I access my own computer?

Thanks

Getting Provider load failure in WMI after SQL 2012 Express uninstall

$

Hi,

I have an application that uses WMI to determine the configuration of SQL Server instances in a computer. I have 2 versions of SQL Server installed, SQL 2008 R2 Express and SQL 2012 Express. Everything works fine until I uninstalled SQL 2012, now I'm receiving this error:

************** Exception Text **************
System.Management.ManagementException: Provider load failure
   at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode)
   at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext()

...

*****************************************

First, I thought this could be a problem only in my computer, however I was able to replicate this error consistently on other computers.

Then I also used "wmiexplorer" to browse SQL WMI, although "wmiexplorer" did not throw an exception, it did not show any information

The error did not occur on SQL 2008 R2 uninstall when I tried it in different computers.

Thanks.

Service Packs in SQL 2008

$

We have SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition with no service pack applied till now. I am planning to apply the service pack on the server. I have a few questions before proceeding on this.

1)Can I apply SP3 without applying SP1 and SP2.

2)This server is merge replicated with publisher and distributor on the same server. So what should be the order in which Service pack has to be applied.

3)Should I stop all the replication jobs before applying service pack

4)The subscriber server is in again a publisher to another server with transactional replication. Can I leave that subscriber with no service packs as I dont have access to this subscriber server.

That's I have server1 ,server2 and server3.

Server1< ==> Server2 Merge Replication

Server2==>Server 3 Transactional Replication.

Is it neccessary that Server 3 also should be applied with service pack

Thanks

I'm trying to install SQLServer 2008 R2 on my laptop running Windows 7 SP1.

I ran the installer as admin to the local box with full preveliges.

I tried to reinstall but always the same error. Below is the important portion of C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20130222_093330\Detail.txt... Can anyone offer any assistance? Would be highly appreciated.

unable to upgrade sql instance from 2008 to 2012

Hi all!

I'm having a HUGE problem, that I was unable to solve browsing the web.

The problem is bigger than this post, in short I messed up my lync 2013 upgrade, and now need to publish my topology to the sql server used by the 2010 pool.

So, here's the deal:

I've managed to upgrade successfully SQL server 2008 to 2012 enterprise edition.

But when I check the version of my instance, it's still the old one.

So, after the upgrade, when trying to publish the topology on lync server, I get this error:

Error: SQL version is not high enough. Minimum SQL Server must be major version 10 and minor version 50 and build 1600 (2008 R2) or higher. This SQL Server is major version 10, minor version 0, and build 5500.

I've tried to follow the steps according to this technet article, but got no results.

Also, I've tried using SQL dump, but still no results.

Can anyone help me out? :)

Cheers,

Andrey

Can't uninstall SQL 2012 ? Error Code 0x84b10001

I keep getting this error when I try to install, repair or uninstall SQL 2012 which won't run because of another error? Here is the error..

sql server has encontoiured the following error:

Could not load file or assembly \\\ C:/program files/microsoft/sql server/ 110 blah blah blah huge path / Microsoft.SQLserver.Configuration.Setup.Extension.DLL  Error Code 0x84b10001

I'm also not able to open SQL server management studio 2012. I have Management Studio 2008, but I need 2012 for my remote host which is using 2012. So, when I try with 2008 to open my db at the host, I get an error that I need 2012. This is driving me nuts..

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate with 8gig of ram, solid state drive, on a lap top, latest updates, etc,. I also have VIsual Studio 2012 Pro, Webmatrix, and everything else works fine. Just this one damn SQL server Management studio that I need for it's visual tools to do relationships with, etc, and it doesn't work. Any help would be most appreciated.. I'm going to try to update SQL server again and the computer in general to see if that helps..

A search gives me a lot of stuff about 2008 sql, but nothing with the same error, so I'm afraid to try those solutions since they don't seem to be the same problem as I'm having!
