Changing collation is failing - SQL 2008 R2

I read numerous other posts that indicate how to rebuild system dbs with a new collation. I have no user databases as of yet (vendor noticed it was wrong collation before they started their installation.) They want the collation to be "Latin1_General_CI-AS" instead of "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI-AS".

I have executed this:

Setup /ACTION=REBUILDDATABASE /INSTANCENAME=SQLA /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="domain\acct" /SAPWD=MyPwd!" /SQLCOLLATION="Latin1_General_CI-AS"

This is from my Summary.txt file from myC:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log directory:

Overall summary:
Final result:                  Failed: see details below
  Exit code (Decimal):           -2068578304
  Exit facility code:            1204
  Exit error code:               0
Exit message:                  The collation Latin1_General_CI-AS was not found.
  Start time:                    2013-02-19 13:59:31
  End time:                      2013-02-19 14:02:02
  Requested action:              RebuildDatabase

Is the collation Latin1_General_CI-AS something I have to enable or install?

I have tried the above with both "Latin1_General_CI-AS" and "Latin1_General_CP1_CI-AS" with the same results.

Ideas?

How to Slipstream a Service Pack and a CU together

$

I am currently running SQL 2008 R2 SP1 CU 6.  I would like to upgrade if you will to SP2 and CU5 at the same time.  Is there a way to create a single install of SP2 and CU5 so that I only have to run the install one time and get both SP2 and CU5 installed?

I know how to slipstream the RTM media, SP2, and CU5 together to create media that I use to do a clean install.  That is not what I want to do here.  Since SQL is already installed I want to apply SP2 and CU5 at the same time without having to run two setups.

Thanks

Michael

Linked Servers using the SQLNCLI provider

I have an sql server 2008 (call it server1) with a linked server that uses the SQLNCLI provider pointing to an instance of sql server 2008 (call it server2) that is about to be upgraded to 2012.

As far as I understand when server2 is upgraded to 2012 the linked server on server1 is defined in a configuration that ins no longer supported beacuse the definition of the provider SQLNCLI probably uses SQLNCLI10 (2008).

Would the corrective action be to install SQLNCLI11 (2012) on server1 and not modifying the linked server and assuming that now the new provider (SQLNCLI11 ) is in use?

Thanks

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 then CU7-CU9?

$

Greetings,

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1.  We have a Reporting Services issue (KB2522708) that is addressed in CU7.  When we try to apply CU7, it eventually reaches the point where it says:  "There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer."

One of the 3 different systems we've tried it on also said:  "The version of SQL Server instance Shared Component does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update.  The installed SQL Server product version is 10.51.2500.0, and the expected SQL Server version is 10.50.1600.1."

We then tried CU9 on one of the systems, but received the first message.

Can CU7 through CU9 be applied to a system at version 10.51.2500?  Seems odd that I would have to deinstall SP1 to be able to install CU7?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yet Another SP3 Will Not Install

Hello Folks,

I have tried to install SQL 2008 SP3 from Windows Update and the download.  It starts the install and then disappears with no error code or any notice at all.  I have tried the repair shared components bit and that fails with "Attributes do not match."  Tried putting missing install files in c:\windows\installer and that has not changed the scenario.

The SQL server is installed on d:, but apparently some logs and other get written to c: .  In addition to Standard, machine also had SQL Express on it for some reason (Arcserve?) and may still.  Updates shows SQL Express hotfixes applied.

I would appreciate help on this.

You folks have a good whatever,

Robert

I currently own a CPU license for SQL Server 2000. I want to transfer this to a new Windows 2008 R2 server. Is this type of transfer possible? If not, is there an upgrade path from 2000 to 2005 or 2008 (or 2012 for that matter)?

I have installed SQL Server Express edition 32-bit on my 64 bit Server 2008 system.

I have found that multiple Registry entries are created in both WOW6432Node and 64-bit registries.

Is Microsoft creating both the keys by default or is it an error(from the package)?

If Microsoft creating those registries, please let me know the Reason

SQL Server 2012 Patch KB2716442 Error 84D10103

This update has been failing to install for months now from Windows Update.  I finally decided to dig in.  I downloaded the standalone patch exe for it and it is failing with the following message dialog:

"No more data is available.

Error code 0x84D10103."

I've tried a couple of the fixes described in other error codes for this patch and nothing seems to work.  I tried fixing the registry (described with 84b20001), and running setup with both (/action=patch AND /action=repair).  Nothing has made any difference.

I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, and I have both SQL 2012 and SQL Express installed.

Hi all,

We have just upgraded our SQL server 2008 (Express) to SP1.
Upgrade was successfull with no errors.
Server is windows server 2003 SP2

Now when I try to start SQL 2008 service , I get the error.

Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

Windows Event Log says:

Failing application sqlserver.exe version 2007.100.1600.22 faulting module kernel32.dll version 5.2.3790.4480 fault address 0x0000bef7

I've tried checking the SQL logs but there is no detail of the CURRENT error ( because service will not start)

Any help greatly appretiated.

Ray..

Best way to upgrade to SQL 2008 R2 from SQL 2005

Hi,

i Need to upgrade a client from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2.

i Ran the upgrade advisor and get the following:

Ok, image does not want to upload now...Will try in a new post..

Looks lto me like thee only issue i must sort out is the "upgrade advisor determined that full-text search is currently installed"? Is this correct?

Then also what woul dbe the best way to upgrade? i Am tempted to insert the new SQL media and see if you can upgrade SQL? Or should i install SQL 2008 on a different instance and move the DB's? Sharepoint might have issues with this...

Thanks!

Getting started with FileStream/File Table full text search.

(SQLEXPRESS 2012 + Windows Server 2008R2)

I created a filestream database:

CREATE DATABASE FileStreamTest
ON
PRIMARY (NAME = FileStream1,
		FILENAME = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\FileStreamDat1.mdf'),
FILEGROUP FileStreamGroup1 CONTAINS FILESTREAM ( NAME= FileStream3,
		FILENAME = 'F:\FileStream1')
LOG ON ( NAME = FileStreamLog1,
		FILENAME = 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\FileStreamLog1.ldf')
GO

Then I created a table (Documents) & I next created a full text catalog and index:

create fulltext catalog FileStreamFTCatalog AS DEFAULT
Create fulltext index on dbo.Documents
(Title, Text TYPE COLUMN TextType)
Key INDEX PK_Document
ON FileStreamFTCatalog
WITH Change_Tracking AUTO

I added a file named "This is a text.docx" and "This is a text.pdf"  The content of both files was "This is a test."

So now I search with query:

Select DcoumnetID, Title
FROM Documents
WHERE CONTAINS (Text, 'This')

I get nothing.  I thought both files would showed up.  What am I doing wrong?

THANKS!

Easy Deployment of SQL Server (Help, About to Lose Contract!)

I have built an application that relies on SQL Server as its database.

The PM at the client company took over a week to manage to install SQL Server, and was completely unable to install Management Studio.

The version of Advanced Installer that I use cannot automate installation of databases.

If I don't get an installation that automatically installs the database to him by tomorrow night, he is going to cancel my contract.

What can I do?
