Near the end of my install of SP1 I got the error message in the subject. Upon copying the error:
TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
The NT service 'MSSQLFDLauncher$MSSQL_2012' could not be started.
Error code 0x84B20001.
For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&EvtType=0xAE7B8BF3%25400xF762992B%25401202%25401
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
And hitting OK, setup just disappeared. No further indication of whether it was going to rollback or recommend a repair, etc.
Further investigation into why the setup failed show that SP1 appears to have actually installed the FullText Filter Daemon on this particular instance of SQL 2012 all on it's own. We had not installed that to my recollection, as we didn't have any intention of using it on this server. To further back that up, we use domain accounts for all of our services relating to SQL Server, and the FullText Filter Daemon was set up to run under the default account as if we had just installed it and not set any account, and since that default account didn't actually exist on this system, the service failed to start during SP1 installation.
I switched the service account to run FTFD under to LocalService, and then that service started correctly - but the SQL Server service will still NOT start. I'm currently doing a repair, and I'll post back on how that pans out.
Regardless, there appears to be scenarios with the SP1 installer where it will have a rather catastrophic failure, and there's a good chance it has to do with not having the full text filter daemon installed.
I've downloaded CU1 for SQL 2012 sp1 64-bit. Trying to extract the '455715_Intl_x64_zip.exe' file I get an error that the file is part of a multidisk zip file and asks me to insert the last disk of the set. I've re-downloaded the file several times thinking my file was possibly corrupt. I get the same result, though.
Is anyone else having this problem?

I successfully created a simple Backup Maintenance Plan under SSMS. But now that the plan is created I need to change the number of days the backups are kept. When I pull up the plan udner SSIS and lok at the tasks I can't locate that option. I couldn't find it under the sql agent either. Anyone know where it is? (Or do I need to recreate the plan from scratch?)

I have a SQL server 2008 developer edition on my workstation.

still confusing about this:
1. for SSIS I can use 2008 R2 version BIDs for developing both 2008 and 2008 R2 SSIS package and deploy them to 2008 and 2008 R2 production server respectively?
2. for Database engine and reporting service, I would install 2008 R2 side by side with 2008.
Since there is a default distance exist in the server (2008), when I install 2008 R2, do I have to create a named instance?
Thanks

SQL Server 2012 setup stops going to next window with a Please Wait being seen for hours together.
I don't see anything being logged in the event viewer.
Can someone help me on this please.

Ok I am trying to restore a database into SQL 2012 using the wizard.
In 2008 you...
"Right Click Databases folder | Restore Database | Choose your "To database" | Choose your "From Database" (make sure the names are different) | go to options | look at the "Restore As" name and see that the file names match the name of the "To database"
If you do the same thing in 2012 the file names do not change when you change the "Destination database" it simply stays the same as the "Source" database. You can change them manually but this is a pain if you have several files.
So is there an option to change this so that when you change the name of the "destination database" that it will automatically change the names of the files as well?
Thanks

I am having problem to install security update for SQL Server 2012 (64-bit) on Windows 8 (64-bit) OS.
I got error code 84B20001 while installation. After further investigation, in event log I found message as below-

Appreciate the help.

I downloaded cumulative update #1 for SQL 2012 sp1. I get an error unzipping the PowerPivot for Excel file for 32-bit.
The file name is 2012_SP1_PPExcel_CU1_2765331_11_0_3321_x86 and can be downloaded from:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2765331&kbln=en-us
I've downloaded it 3 or 4 times and on separate days but still get the error of "This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set."
I had a similar issue with the 64-bit Engine file which did get resolved yesterday.
Has anyone else had a problem with this file or gotten it to work?
Thanks,
Toni
Hi,
I'm trying to install BIDS and SSMS for SQL Server 2012 on my machine. However, I can't get passed validation step that indicates SP1 needs to be installed for Visual Studio 2010. However, I have installed an re-installed VS2010 SP1 already.
Has anyone had the same problem?
We have a server in which we have installed Sql Server express .
and want to automate the backup of databases.
because in sql server express there is no maintenance plan.
how i can do it
I tried following the steps on TechNet to create a VM in Windows Azure using the BizTalk 2010 R2 CTP image.
However, once the Virtual Machine is created the SQL Services are all in the stopped status. When you try to start the services it throws error stating the evaluation period is expired. Is there a way to get around this? Did anybody else face a similar situation?
My @@version reports
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2811.0 (X64) Apr 6 2012 01:59:29 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (Hypervisor)
(However, ODDLY, the Setup Discovery Report, in installation center, titles itself “Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Setup Discovery Report” and lists 10.51.2811.0 for all components(note the .51.))
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321185 enumerates 10.50.2500.0 as Service Pack 1 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2567616 enumerates my version 10.50.2811 as CU6 which is what I have implemented…always applying SP1, then this CU around April of 2012. So I would strongly assert I am on SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition SP1 plus CU6. Why the setup discovery report lists this as 10.51. instead of 10.50 just is a MS inconsistency in reporting.
My issue however is that I had hoped that CU6 would be one CU before the SP2 rollup, however, my timing was wrong*, and it was one ahead. SP2(July) was CU1-5(February 2012). SP2 was released in late July at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlreleaseservices/archive/2012/07/26/sql-server-2008-r2-sp2-is-now-available.aspx but did not include April CU6.
MY MAIN QUESTION is what is the next best path for patching from SP1 plus CU6 on SQL 2008 R2(10.50.2811). Should I apply SP2(10.50.4000) and then maybe a SP2 CUx(but in a sense, I’m rolling back from CU6 to CU5 in that operation before I apply the SP2 CU) which will then put me on track again? This just seems a little dangerous for the registry/dll registrations/any updates to system objects in sql. OR should I accept that I am now out of sync so need to just apply latest CU for SP1 when needed and skip SP2 all together, and wait for SP3 to get back on track?
Thanks,
Forrest
*I was aggressive on patching because we did have one issue needing a CU, and living in a university network, aggressive security patching is also part of our life. I just happened to be going through a scheduled patching window at the same time MS was cutting over to SP2. Ugh.

Hi,
I am getting the following error when trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio (SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe or SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe) on a new Toshiba Portege R830-10R:
Another version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 has been detected on this system that must be updated to SP1. Please update all Visual Studio 2008 installations to SP1 level, by visiting Microsoft Update.
I have all Windows Updates installed on this machine and I DO NOT have VS 2008 installed on this computer (VS2008 was never installed on this computer), but VS 2010 SP1 with .Net Framework 4.0 SP1!
I have sent all day trying to install either ones of the above .exe, but always get the same error message.
I have checked the registry and see that I do not have a HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS key but only a HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VC key (probably since I configured VS1010 for C#). The HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VC\Servicing\9.0 contains
SP = 1 and SPIndex = 1.
Please help.
Thanks.
Eric
Hello, I've been told the new Always On feature doesn't need a shared SAN which then what are the necessary requirements/steps it takes to set this up in a virtual (VirtualBox) environment to test things out?...
-Would it require minimal 3 vms as VM_1 = DomainController, VM_2 = Node1, VM_3 = Node2 or something else?
-Should the SQL 2012 install option to setup be the "New SQL Server failover cluster installation" or the "New sql server standalone installation or add features to an existing installation"?
Thanks in advance.
I had a system disk failure. I got another of disk and MS Image backup would not fo a restore on the different kind of disks so I'm trying to piece a system back tgethrt and my question deals wirh SQLCE,

I am trying to find how to buy 2008 R2 developer edition in Europe (Portugal). The US Microsoft store won't ship here, the Europe ones don't sell it. Amazon UK says out of stock with no indication of it returning back to stock (guess it won't if it's been replaced with 2012)
I don't want the 2012 developer, it has to be 2008 R2 developer.
I am currently running a trial version that I want to update. Is it possible to purchase a download version rather than having to have it shipped out?
The local PC stores certainly don't stock it, and they also don't seem to know where to get it from. This seems to be an impossible product to actually buy!
Hi
I have a request to set connectivity b/w Windows MSSQL Server 2012 and Linux platform.
