$
0
0

I.m trying to install Sql Server 2016 Express basic on my laptop (windows 10). At the end of installation I got an error : trying to perform a not-authorized process.

The detail file from the log has the following error :

The configuration failure category of current exception is ConfigurationFailure
Configuration action failed for feature SQL_Engine_Core_Inst during timing ConfigNonRC and scenario ConfigNonRC.

I started the installation as an administrator and I disabled the firewall, but the installation still  fails.  I suppose I have to change something in my configuration, but I don't know what to do.

Best regards,

Thijs

SQL Availability Group question to do with pinging listener when primary is shut down

$

Hi,

I have a 4 node SQL AG config where the primary should auto-fail to the secondary via synchronous data commit IF the primary goes offline.

So during testing we turned off the primary but the IP for the  listener can't be pinged...i expect a ping if the primary is off as the secondary should respond but it does not...

Can anyone advise how to trouble shoot this? There is no error in event viewer - where else can we look for some info on this please?

I'm a new SQL DBA so not sure which SQL error logs if any would have this info?

Please help! Thanks!

Service Pack upgrade corrupting database

Hello, I am trying to upgrade a SQL 2008 R2 SP2 server to SP3 and when I run the service pack install it corrupts the Master database so that SQL server will not start.

I see a lot of information on the net about how to recover from it but I was wondering if there are things I should look for in order to prevent it from even happening in the first place.

Any advice is helpful.

Thanks

SQL Server 2014 Express localDB

I have a local application that uses SQL Server 2014 Express localDB.  When my company ran a scan on my PC, the localDB had a security violation.  I needed this security patch: KB3194714.  I downloaded the executable for KB3194714 and installed onto my PC.  This also installed a version of SQL Server 2014 and this created 2 more violations.

I did find Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 3 (the latest service pack), Release date: October 30, 2018. There is an install for Express.  How can I check that this has the latest security update?

The link to the latest SQL Server developer edition compatible with Windows 7

Hello,

I would like to install SQL Server developer edition on my Windows 7 machine. SQL Server 2019 is not compatible. I would like to try earlier versions but cannot find download links for them.

There is some information on previous SQL Server versions on microsoft site in Products/Previous Versions section, but no download links to developer editions, only evaluation downloads.

So the question is: What is the latest version of SQL Server developer edition that works on Windows 7 and how can I download it?

Thanks!

SSMS 18 and TFS - Where and how?

$

I just installed SSMS 18 and cannot find information on how to activate TFS and source control features.
I have Visual Studio 2019 installed and I heve been using source control features in SSMA 17.x that I activated by editing the ssms.pkundef file.
In version 18 there is no such option because the ssms.pkundef file does not contain references to TFS.
Is there a solution I have not found yet?
It is absolutely essential to have source control functionality because it has become the standard way of work of my team.
For now, the only solution that is within my reach is the uninstallation of version 18 and return to version 17.9 but I can not believe that there is no way to do it in version 18.
Can someone help me?

We are unable to patch one of the MSSQL server application since there is issue with the Cumulative update package , as it is not supporting the Current version of SQL server 2016 and not detecting the Instance on it for update progression to proceed further with the next step.

Hyper-V vs. Dedicated Hardware

We currently have our SQL Server as a VM using Windows Hyper-V and it's been running fine until the past year when demand and reporting increased causing time to build report from NAV 2009 to take 4 hours to finish.  There has been discussion that having SQL on a hyper-v server run the server slower with other hyper-v on the same physical server.  I'm looking for someone to confirm that using today's Xeon gold processor and HPE server grade NVMe drives will provide the speed needed if the SQL and one other server are on the same physical hardware.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

Patching SQL Server 2016 SP1 (13.0.4259.0) GDR to SP2

Sorry for the silly question, but I've learned to ask questions first without assuming :)

Can any SQL server admins advise me:

I need to patch my SQL server to SP2 and the latest CU.  I'm currently running SP1 version (13.0.4259.0) GDR.  I just wanted to confirm it's ok to first patch with SP2 and then CU11.  The GDR (general distribution release) in the version number is throwing me off as I see other patches for GDR, do I need to use one of those?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am trying to install unattended installation of SQL Server 2014 Express. I am using a .vbs script for this.

Hi All,

I have installed SQL 2016 RTM version and when i try to install SP2, the install page disappears after Accepting the license terms.  When i check the log, I only see one error message " Error: Action "PreMsiTimingConfigAction" failed during execution".

Please assist to resolve the issue.
