Debug error Info "TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Cannot execute script. ------------------------------ "

New to here and sorry if I have posted on the wrong forum.

I've installed VS2008,VS2010,VS2012 on my Win 7 x 64 OS. Today I installed SQL Server 2008 R2 and try to debug a T-SQL query like

"If DB_ID('testdb') IS NULL

CREATE DATABASE testdb;"

I can complete the commands successfully but when I click "debug"

I got the following error:

"

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------

Cannot execute script.

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Unable to start the Transact-SQL debugger. The Transact-SQL debugger does not support SQL Server 2005 or earlier versions of SQL Server. (SQLEditors)

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

"

Am I missing anything? Does the error means this, "my default instance was created by SQL Server 2005 but now I try to debug with SQL Server 2008, so I get this error?".

How can I solve the error?

Best regards,

Garros

SQL Server 2005 Setup error 'SQLServer2005_BC.msi'

A client of mine installed an sql 2005 sqlexpress on his server after a standard version was already installed.  I tried to upgrade him to a later version of my software and create a new instance on the sql server 2005.  While running the install I got the following error:  An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward compatability cannot be found.  Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'SQLServer2005_BC.msi'  The install error text seems to be looking for this file in the SQLEXpress folder.  ANy ideas on whats causing this or possible solutions to try?

SQL Server 2005 Standard Cluster Node Addition Issue

$

We are running SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition x64 Sp4 on Windows 2008R2. Our current cluster consists of two nodes, D and E. The server admins have added two new servers to the Win 2008 R2 cluster, and have them in a 'paused' state. I have installed SQL Server 2005 Standard X64 Sp4 on both these potential nodes (A and B).  We would like to swap out both the current nodes, with the newly added nodes.

1) we evicted node E, then un-paused server A

2) I ran the virtual server setup from add/remove programs signed into the cluster as a domain administrator, to try and add server A into the cluster.

I recieved the following error:

SI (s) (40:A4) [15:15:35:985]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) - Update 'Hotfix 3024 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB000000)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file \\PHSQL2D\C$\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0012_PHSQL2A_SQL.log.

Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Update Name: Hotfix 3024 for SQL Server Database Services 2005 (64-bit) ENU (KB000000). Installation success or error status: 1603.

- All four Windows server are running the same version and patch level of Windows 2008 R2

- All four SQL Servers are running the same version (builds) of SQL Server 2005 Standard

Any ideas as to why this occurred?

Thanks, Clarke Morris

I have recently migrated my server from SQL 2008 to SQL 2008 R2 still I am having following question

(1) When I migrated server from 2008 to 2008 R2 does it automatically migrate reporting service also or what ?

(2)I have one default instance and other is named instance so for migration do i need to do both instance separately or what because I migrated only one default instance and after migration my named instance also shows R2 so just get confuse

(3)After migration do i need to change anything in Reporting service configuration or not?

SQL Server 2008 Express Install Fails

I am distributing the sql 2008 server express version with a .net application. I am using Installshield for the install with SQL Server Express as a prerequisite. I am doing a quiet install using command line setup switches. On a test install on a Vista computer located on my domain, the install fails with the error "The process does not possess the 'SeSecurityPrivilege' privilege which is required for this operation.

I am installing under a user who is the computer administrator and a domain user. I expect that most of my clients will have the same security levels. How can I get around this issue so my clients won't have a similiar issue?

Thanks.

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Install error on clustered

I'm trying to perform a rolling patch on our SQL Server 2008 R2 instance. I perform the rolling patch upgrade using MS instructions but it seems to fail near what I think is the end. It looks like both of the servers have been upgraded (when you connect to the instance in SSMS it says 10.50.2500); but I'm worried that the upgrade is "in limbo" or something because it did not complete sucessfully. When I try to manually install the SP, it completes with failures.

The summary file says:

Overall summary:
Final result:                  The patch installer has failed to update the following instance: TDB1. To determine the reason for failure, review the log files.
  Exit code (Decimal):           -595541211
  Exit facility code:            1152
  Exit error code:               49957
Exit message:                  The patch installer has failed to update the following instance: TDB1. To determine the reason for failure, review the log files.

When I look in the log files; there is 5502 lines; on 5497-5502 I see this error:

2012-08-01 11:01:15 Slp: Error result: -595541211
2012-08-01 11:01:15 Slp: Result facility code: 1152

2012-08-01 11:01:15 Slp: Sco: Attempting to open registry subkey Software\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting\DW\Installed

That's the end of the file. Anyone have an idea?

Cheers

Compatibility problems with SQL Server Management Studio 2012 (?)

I'm running SQL Server Management Studio 2012

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      11.0.2100.60
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)      6.1.7601.17514
Microsoft MSXML      3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer      9.0.8112.16421
Microsoft .NET Framework      4.0.30319.269
Operating System      6.1.7601

This machine is only a few months old (Windows 7) so I must have downloaded this recently.

For no good reason I thought I'd take a peek at AdventureWorks for SQL Server 2012.  (http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/55330)

When I try to attach either of the first two data files listed, I get the message: The database 'AdventureWorks2012' cannot be opened because it is version 705. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported.

What's the simplest fix for this?  To the best of my knowledge all my updates are current.

I am trying to set up SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard so that I can install System Center 2012 Configuration Manager over it.  I have Server 2008 R2 fully up to date.  I get through the entire installation steps, and when it gets to the actual install, it says it fails 2/3 of the way through and finishes.  When I get to the page after it, it shows the errors that the database engine didn't install (as well as, replication, full text search, and reporting services).  Here is the log from when it fails:

Scale Out of Reporting Server - Quantifying cost benefits.

$

Hello Experts,

Am involved in Performance testing of existing system at one of our client.

What we found is reporting server and application database server are on the same machine.

At peak hours concurrent users vary around 350-400 and there are around 250 reports (large reports) and on the same machine database is enabled with filestream.

Plan is to move reporting server to different machine and Filestream to different volume.

But before presenting the report we need to quantify the cost / performance benefits to the client before they can implement the required changes.

Is there any white paper how to make a Quantifying report (cost benefits) for this (moving report server to different machine).

Thanks

We had to evict, rebuild, and readd a cluster node to a windows 2003 x64 enterprise cluster running sql 2005 enterprise edition. when attempting failover to the new node we get the below error messages in the application event logs. SQL Browser *is* running which is the solution I have seen on any similar error posted on forums and blogs. unable to validate if allowing remote connections is enabled or not as we cannot get SAC to connect to the virtual name. only assuming it is since no changes have taken place when it was working previously in regards to the instances, only that the node was rebuilt. any assistance would be appreciated.

I have a server that uses SQL Server 2008 SP2 (build 10.0.4000.0 (X64)) as part of DPM 2010.  On one of our servers (our other SQL Server didn't have this problem), running KB2494089 fails via WSUS or manually installation.  I turned on verbose windows installer logging and this is what I see:

Problem with Upgrading to SQL 2012

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade to SQl 2012 RTM from SQL 2008R2. I have run the Upgrade Advisor and it did not find any issues. When the setup is on the Select Features step I can see that it has selected the default instance on my server along with shared features. When I click Next on it, I keep getting an error saying " There are no features selected for upgrade". I am not sure how to move forward with this. The server OS is Windows 2008 R2 SP1.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Received a failed install report for CU1 installing on a default 2008R2 SP2 instance, but the version number incremented.  Old version 10.50.4000, after failed install 10.50.4260.  Installed on Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 build 7601.17835.  I found the detail log but I'm not sure what I am looking at.  Here is the tail of the log where I see an error/stack trace.  Can anyone tell me how to correct the failures?
