Need access to old media (SQL Server 2005 service pack 2)

We are in the process of moving our datacenter to a different location.  In order to facilitate that move we have to make some changes to our virtual machines.  One of our virtual machines is failing when we try to make the change.  The thought our systems team had was to create a new system exactly like it, but with the changes we needed.  It is a great idea, but unfortunately the application that runs on there is very old and has SQL Server 2005 SP2 as its backend.  We have the SQL Server 2005 media, but not the service pack that it is running.  I tried looking on the Microsoft site for that service pack, but it is not available because it is out of support.  Would you be able to see if you can get the SQL Server 2005 service pack 2 media for us?  This would be greatly appreciated because we are running out of ideas on how to get this system compatible with our move.  The team that owns that application is working on moving off of it to a new application, but they won't be completely migrated by the time we have to move.

SQL Server Linux Ubuntu

Hi,

Can I ask why the official documentation for installing SQL Server for Linux on Ubuntu, specifically specifies version 16.04, when users seems to have had no issues with 18.04 (For example):

https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/92235bab-86a8-4aa5-ba78-2837656d99de/is-there-any-way-to-install-the-product-on-ubuntu-1810?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/linux/quickstart-install-connect-ubuntu?view=sql-server-ver15

Is there anything specific which is holding Microsoft back from officially supporting 18.04?

Thanks

Firstly, I searched this forum and saw referrals to an SQL licensing specialist. If it's the same answer please let me know how I find an SQL license specialist.

I have an Action Pack subscription that confers the following rights:

Can anyone explain what this gives us to enable us to run SQL internally?
I have read the guide here https://download.microsoft.com/download/7/8/C/78CDF005-97C1-4129-926B-CE4A6FE92CF5/SQL_Server_2017_Licensing_guide.pdf but don't understand if we have ability to run in per cal model (as there is no Server licence and the CALs show as Benefit type CORE) or in per core model, where a minimum of 4 licences are required.  Do we have 2 x 4 licences or just 2 in total, in which case how could this ever be enough to run SQL 2017?

The support people on Microsoft Partner Network have referred me here so please don't refer me back to them as they are unable to help.

Many thanks in advance

I have a SQL instance which has SQL 2012 SP4 Express on it.

I would like to upgrade that instance to SQL 2017 Express.   I downloaded the installer file, but it does not give me the option to perform an upgrade from a previous version.  It only gives me the option to do a Basic, Custom or Download files

Please advise.

Hi Pros,

Does anyone know how to fix this error below? I'm running Python in-database using SQL Server 2017. The coding environment should have been set up properly and run code without any problems up until last week and I didn't make any changes on the SQL Server or anything.

sample code

exec sp_execute_external_script @language=N'Python',@script=N'OutputDataSet = InputDataSet

I am trying to install KB3171021 (SQL Server 2014 SP2) on my production SQL box.  It fails with Code 851A0042.

This is the only information in the Event Log: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 2 (KB3171021).

I have verified the system and SQL server program disk have space on them.

StretchDB creating error

I succeeded to set up StretchDB before this month, but it was failed this month.

I have tried using both wizard and command for StretchDB, both error message from SSMS and the log of StretchDB wizard (Path =C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Sql Server\StretchWizardLogs) are about "Gen1 Data Warehouse has been deprecated in this region. Please leverage Gen2 Data Warehouse".

I used South East Asia SQL2016 Dev edition VM and South East Asia Azure SQL Database Standard SKU this time, and Azure documentation said South East Asia already became Generation 2 since 2019/6/1.

How can I resolve this environmental problem? Thanks!

How to install SQL Server LocalDB with my application?

I have developed an application in vb.net 4.5 with VS2015 and I am using InstallShield Limited Edition to create the MSI installation file.

Some of the final users don't have internet, so I need to include the SQLLocalDB.msi and install it silently.

I can't find a single sample for this, it should be a common scenario right?

Hi,

Since I installed ssms 18.x, I have trouble when I want to create a new extended session, following theses steps "management->Extended Event->Sessions" click right on "new session." When the dialog box is open, I click on "events."  and the list of events remains desperately empty.
I make a screenshot see below.
I already tried to uninstall and install again(with a reboot).
I tried to re-install the french edition with the same issues.

SQL Server Build version management to patch KB file

Hi. I am DBA of SQL Server 2014 Enterprise SP2 on Windows server 2012 R2.

I just got alert from vulnerability scan that it is required to patch KB4505217 to my SQL server. I run the below query to my SQL server, I confirm service pack is SP2-CU11 and build version is 12.0.5579.0 there.

Select @@version
----------------------------
Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (SP2-CU11) (KB4077063) - 12.0.5579.0 (X64) Feb 21 2018 12:19:47 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Enterprise Edition: Core-based Licensing (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.3 <X64> (Build 9600: ) (Hypervisor)

In my research, the required patch KB4505217 have two kind of patch for SP2.

(1) Description of the security update for SQL Server 2014 SP2 GDR: July 9, 2019

(2) Description of the security update for SQL Server 2014 SP2 CU17 GDR: July 9, 2019

The (1) is patch for build version 12.0.5223.6

The (2) is patch for build version 12.0.5659.1

My SQL server is build version 12.0.5579.0

In this case, Which patch should I apply? Or Should I upgrade my SQL server to required build version at first, then I should patch it? If so how I can find the patch to upgrade build version to required version? (My DB server is located in internal network that is not allowed to access to internet, so I need to download a patch for standalone manually)

Any advices will be gratefully appreciated it. Thank you.

Hi,

I had already installed sql server 2017 in my machine and one of my application installed SQL server 2008R2 express edition on my machine to run itself. After installed application isn't worked properly as it couldn't connect the server because sql server instance is in stopped state. And I couldn't start the service.

Note: If I install that same application on the machine, where sql server 2016 was installed, it is working fine.

KB4057115 installation is failed on SQL Server Standard 2012 SP3

Hello Everyone:

Actually i have a windows server 2012 R2 standard and isntalled SQL Server 2012 Standard SP3.  In Windows Update appeared a new patch (KB4057115).  When we tried to install this patch, appeared the following error

I don't know why the message shows that we have isntalled is 11.1 and the version expected is 11.3.  We check the version in instance and we see that version is 11.0.6020

So, my questions are:

1) What Do i need to do in this case for applying this patch?

2) Is correct that i need install this patch?

3) Why version in my case is 11.0.6020 and it is Service Pack 3?.  I checked on internet and i just can identify that version SP3 is 11.0.6020 and not 11.3.6020.  Do exists any difference about two versions or Are they the same?

Please help me with this weird case.

Kind Regards
