SQL 2012 SP2 There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer

Hi,

I have a SQL Server instance:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 - 11.0.5058.0 (X64)
May 14 2014 18:34:29
Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (Hypervisor)

I am trying to install:

SQLServer2012SP2-KB2958429-x64-ENU

On the "Select Features" screen of the setup I get an error message when I try to click next:

"There are no SQL Server Instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer."

I've checked and re-checked the release notes - pretty sure I have the right versions of everything:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/67cb8b3e-3d82-47f4-840d-0f12a3bff565?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

"Setup Error" when trying to install .NET framework3.5 on win2k8 server running SQL 2008

$

Hi,

When I try to install .NET framework3.5SP1 on a win2k8 server running SQL 2008, I get the message "Setup error" in the install window. I am using the "dotnetfx35.exe" file downloaded from the Microsoft site at the link below:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=22

I arrived in this position of needing to reinstall .NET framework3.5SP1 after I ran the .NET Cleanup Tool on all versions of .NET Framework on the server, in an attempt to fix an issue where some .NET Framework updates fail to install.

It seems .NET Framework 3.0SP2 and 4.5.1 install fine on the server. It is only 3.5SP1 that fails, and that is the version required by SQL Server 2008.

Any helpful advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Operating SQL Server 2005 on Server 2003 in a 2012 domain

Hi,

I posted in AD forum, but they point me back to SQL forum.

Again my question is if there are any thoughts on running a sql2005 server (on a 2003 windows server) within a domain that includes a 2012 domain controller, meaning the AD schema has been updated.  I run 3 sql 2005 servers that are linked, and I know that the service accounts are set with ServicePrincipleNames for the sql service.

1. Would the sql2005 server that runs on a server 2003 standard OS, have any issues operating in a domain that has a 2012 domain controller (mixed with other 2003 domain controllers)?

Thanks

Installing SQL Server 2014 Express Edition when a native client already installed

$

Hi

I have a problem to get SQL Server 2014 Express Edition installed on a machine when the Native Client is already installed.

I have a Windows 8.1 Enterprise x86 machine with an already installed SQL Server 2012 Native Client (11.0.2100.60). The installer of SQL Server 2014 Express, SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe (12.0.2000.8) extracts everything needed to install the database. Then, I run the installer, select Database Engine Servers and Management Tools and run the installation which fails with the following error:

A network error occured while attempting to read from the file:
C:\...\1033_ENU_LP\x86\setup\x86\sqlncli_2012.msi

Well, the sqlncli_2012.msi is indeed not in the given folder, there is a sqlncli.msi however.

If I uninstall the SQL Native Client 2012 prior to run SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe, the installation runs through without error.

Is there a way to install SQL Server 2014 Express WITHOUT having to remove an already present SQL Native Client?

Edit: Same behaviour with SQLEXPR32_x86_ENU.exe of SQL Server 2014 Express edition, as long as SQL Native Client 2012 is installed, I get the error mentioned above.

I am trying to register DTS.dll using  the command prompt with the command below:

And I got an error as system could not find the path specified, and when I checked the installation location of SQL, it is  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLABCDE\MSSQL, so I accessed this location C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLABCDE\MSSQL\Binn\DllTmp64, here i see 2 dll files as sqlagentctr100.dll and sqlctr100.dll files.So please let me know if I need to add these files in command prompt to register dll files or please let me know how to proceed with this.

SQL Server version is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP2) - 10.50.4033.0 (X64)   Jul  9 2014 16:04:25   Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation  Enterprise Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 5.2 <X64> (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)

OS version is windows server 2003 R2 enterprise x64 edition with sp2.

Thanks in advance.

Can nodes be removed from a SQL Server 2008r2 on Windows 2008R2 Windows failover cluster without a service interruption?

We currently have a 4 node cluster and are looking to remove and re-purpose 2 of the nodes.

On the two passive nodes, I plan to remove the node from the failover cluster using SQL Server Installation Wizard, and then hand over to our Server team to remove the nodes from the cluster entirely.

Question is: Can this be safetly done while the database instance is being actively used on the active nodes, or should we shutdown the instance adn take a downtime to perform this maintenance?

I haven't been able to find any documentation to support this either way.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn\;

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Tools\Binn\;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\Client SDK\ODBC\110\Tools\Binn\;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Tools\Binn\;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\;

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\;
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\;

Can I delete all variables related to older versions safely without any issue

Thanks

=============================

The full key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\06A0D925C8932A8379FE28AFAF97A860

Steps so far:

I am unable to view the subkey (1D5E...) with REGEDIT--I receive "An error is preventing this key from being opened.  Access is denied."  I can't change the key's permissions, or rename it, or delete the parent key or subkey.

The Windows 7 Professional box is current on fixes.  The SQL Server System Configuration Checker reports no problems.  RegDelNull  doesn't report the key as having any errors.

I'm able to view this key on another Windows 7 system without a problem.

Suggestions appreciated on next steps: delete the 06A0 key, install some other code that will correct the registry, something else?

Thank you!

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16

Hello,

I've encountered issue during installation of SP1 to SQL Server 2012. After upgrade I'm getting this error in Event Log:

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline. If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.

Can someone point me direction how I can fix it? This is a production server and currently only way to make it working is to use T902 flag in SQL Server startup params. I've found some suggestions to check Data path if it exists but it does so this is not the issue here. Any ideas?

I've found also here

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1377073-1550-1.aspx#bm1378279

suggestions for similar issue with SQL Server 2008 which that I should do:

Via ssms:
From msdb:
Delete:
dc_admin role
Dc_operator role
Dc_proxy role
UlitityCMRReader role
UtilityIMRReader role
UtilityIMRWriter role

but for not I didn't tried it yet. This is standalone SQL Server instance.

Any help really appreciated.

Regards
