Hi Guys,

We are using SQL Server 2012 SP1 Cluster Instances .. and i noticed SP2 Released two months ago

My Question # Installing Service Pack generally could raise issues regarding the compatibility with applications? or this is just a bugs fix BIG patch?

We have SharePoint 2013 and CRM 2010 and Lync and Dynamics GP 10 and Project 2013 .. i checked the requirements for this products but no mention for the service pack versions .. only 2012 supported YES!

is it SAFE to install SP2 and the latest Cumulative Update ??

I need to set up a linked server to a SQL 2000 server from my new SQL 2012 server.  I see that the Native Client does not support access to SQL 2000.  What is a supported method/client I can use?

Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure . Status code: 5015. SQL 2012 SP1

Hi,

Please help. I was trying to remove a SQL 2012 SP1 two node clustered instance using setup (Mantenance -> Remove Node)

I started by doing this on passive node (and was successful) but when I ran setup on active node just before finishing successfully I got this error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Setup
------------------------------

The following error has occurred:

The resource 'BCK_SG1DB' could not be moved from cluster group 'SQL Server (SG1DB)' to cluster group 'Available Storage'.
Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic failure . Status code: 5015.
Description: The operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the resource, or the node
is not a possible owner of the resource.
.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft%20SQL%20Server&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=50000&ProdVer=11.0.3000.0&EvtType=0xE8049925%25400x42B4DED7

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

I noticed that SG1DB instance was removed on both nodes but on Failover Cluster Manager -> Services and Applications the SQL server instance for SG1DB is still there. So I tried to delete it but got the error:

Failed to delete SQL Server SG1DB. An error was encountered while deleting the cluster service or
application SQL Server SG1DB. Could not move the resource to available storage. An error occured
while moving the resource BCK_SG1DB to the clustered service or application Available Storage
...

Any ideas why it failed or how could I delete the SQL server instance from Clauster?

Thx

restore msdb (service broker not enabled)

SQL 2014 cu6

We're bringing up a new production server and have a ton of SSIS packages that I need to bring over.  For ease, I restored msdb from the current prod server to the replacement server.  All seemed well until I tried to setup Database Mail.  I get about 2 clicks in and it hangs.  The message I get, before I click next and it hangs, is that Service Broker is not active in msdb.  I click next and it hangs.  I eventually have to kill it. If I try to enable service broker manually it just runs and runs.  I just stopped it after 12 minutes.  I ran this: alter database msdb set enable_broker.

My question is, how can I fix this?  There has to be a way, right?  I really don't want to blow away my install and start from scratch, but I'm afraid my server is not in a stable state right now.

Thanks in advance.

When opening SSMS 2014 getting the following error:

Hi,

I have installed SQL SERVER 2014 and the installation was successful.

When I tried to open the SQL SERVER Management Studio SSMS 2014 and as soon as when clicked on connect to server, I am getting the following error message :

Service 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IRegistrationService' not found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SDK.SqlStudio)

I really couldn't understand what the issue is. I googled the issue but couldn't find the correct solution. So far, I have done the following :

I did run as administrator, but still getting the error message.

I have done the Repair of the installation, but still getting the error message.

I have uninstalled SSMS and again reinstalled, but still getting the error message.

I have modified the dll files and again have done the Repair, but still getting the error message.

Can anyone provide any feedback on how to resolve the above issue?

Thanks,

Overlapped I/O error 997 installing SQL Server 2014 Express on Windows Server 2012 R2

I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2014 Express on a Windows Server 2012 R2 system. When I do the install, it fails (several times) with an "Error: 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.". From searching the web, I can see many people have had this problem with this installer and other non-SQL server installers.

I've tried every solution I can find discussed, but none help with my problems The system is fully updated, with the exception of the KB2538243 (VC 2008 SP1 redist), which is probably failing for the same reason.

I've tried removing several updates mentioned in other articles (KB2918614). I've confirmed that I'm not using a temporary profile.

Does anyone have an idea of how I can solve this issue?

Thanks,

Zack

SQL 2014 Failover Cluster

Hi All,

I am having permission issue while bringing sql cluster resource online.

I had the cluster setup and working with ENT edition, inorder to change the SQL edition, I removed the node from the cluster, uninstalled all the binaries and create a new failover cluster using STD edition. Using the same network name/IP as before, however the setup started failing while trying to bring the clustered service online.

Cluster network name resource 'SQL' failed to create its associated computer object in domain '' during: Resource online.

The text for the associated error code is: Access is denied.

Please work with your domain administrator to ensure that:
- The cluster identity 'DBCLUS$' has Create Computer Objects permissions. By default all computer objects are created in the same container as the cluster identity 'DBCLUS$'.
- The quota for computer objects has not been reached.
- If there is an existing computer object, verify the Cluster Identity 'DBCLUS$' has 'Full Control' permission to that computer object using the Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

There was no permission change in AD, and I verified all the proper permissions exits.

In the properties tab, I see Kerberos status: Access is denied.

Windows 2012 Cluster and Windows 2003 AD.

I am stumped. Any help appreciated. Thank You.

Hi All,

We are going to have a client server os upgrade from 2003 to 2012. We have applications like SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis services and SQL Server Reporting Services. Apart from these, we are using Sharepoint 2007 and .Net for some functionalities.

The new server would be built in parallel with the current one and the current one will be decommissioned soon.

I want to know the

  • software that need to be installed on the new server
  • The testing that will be involved in this upgrade
  • the risks involved in this upgrade

Please help!!

Thanks!

Hi it's Omka,

I've been trying to install sql 2008 express on my win8.1 for almost a week now. When installing the program it has a pop up window with "compatibility issue", but I just ignore that continued the installation, then this appeared

TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created..

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

After that I've tried changing the compatibility mode to windows xp(SP3), but it's not working, "restart computer" in setup support  is having error.

Do I need to install other version of SQL or change any settings ?

Please help :)

ERROR: The cabinet file 'Sql.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used

As the title indicates, I'm having this error during installation. It occurs when I try to install
the "Management Studio" part of the program. I've tried a bunch of things like
copying to hard drive and installing, but to no avail. To isolate the problem, i've even tried removing Reporting services, since at the time of failure it seems to be trying to install/configure the Microsoft.Reporting Services dll.

Additionally, I have SQL Express installed (installed it separately, not as part of the SQL 2005 DVD), VS 2005, .NET Framework 2.0, SQL Management Studio Express CTP. Could the Management Studio Express be causing a problem?

Please note:
Although the error is about missing / corrupt Sql.cab, I have searched the entire dvd for the said file, but there is no file called Sql.cab on the dvd. Am I missing something?

Any solution would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

SQL 2008 R2 SP3 Event ID Error 701 Insufficient memory Please Help!

I don't have much experience with SQL Servers.  I have a small office running a SQL Server and the software being run on the network/server, recently became very unstable, slow and crashes.

The server is pretty new with dual XEON processors and 12GB of ram.  Also have plenty of disk space.   When I check the event view, there are errors 701.  I looked this up online and read about updating the SQL 2008 R2...  I updated to SP3 and still have the same issue.

When I monitor the usage, the SQL server uses 10-20% CPU and 1.5GB of memory.   I read something about System Cache but have no idea how to clear this. Or anything else I should do.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Uninstall SQL EXPRESS 2014 ERROR

Hi, i managed to install SQL Express 2014 on Windows 7 Pro SP1 without any problems at all. When i try to uninstall it i get the error message.

"The operating system on this computer or its service pack level does not meet the minimum requirements for SQL Server 2014."

However it installed absolutely fine without issue, why does it not uninstall? Surely uninstalling should have a lower requirement than installing it!

What is the fix or is this yet another MS bug?

How can I move my SQL Server 2008 program/instance from my old computer to my new one?

I received SQL Server 2008 from MSDN when I took a SQL Server class. The class is over, but I'm still learning using SQL Server. Now I have gotten a new computer. How can I move the base program/instance of SQL Server to the new computer?

Error code 0x84B20002; The cached MSI file 'C:\Windows\Installer\1f643da.msi' is missing.

I am trying to update SQL Server 2008 R2, as another application I want to run says this is not up to date, but get the above error message. Rest of text reads:

Its original file is 'sqlwriter_x64.msi' and it was installed for product 'Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer' from 'f:\eb486050caeebbfff28b6d70\Setup\', version '9.00.5000.00', language 'ENU'.

To resolve this problem, recover the missing file from the installation media and start setup again.

For more information about how to resolve this problem, see 'Steps to restore the missing Windows Installer cache files'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=144387 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

My problem is that I am NOT a SQL expert nor a programmer so have absolutely no clue how to follow the instructions in the KB article. I also do not have the original installation media. I cannot find a simple non-technical answer to this issue, ie a bit of software that I can simply download and run which will sort out the msi business.

Can anyone help??

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 support question

Is SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 supported on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1? I've found this website

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2022909

where it says:

“SQL Server 2008 R2 is not supported onany version of Windows Server 2008 less than Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2”

but I think this article is pretty old so it might not be up to date.

SQL Server 2014 on Windows 8.1 - Setup Failure - C:\Windows\Temp folder

$

0

Well, the title pretty much says it all.  I'm installing SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition on Windows 8.1 Pro.  The installation uses domain service accounts for all the services.  The installation progress well until the end.  Then, I get the following message:

Updating permission setting for folder C:\Windows\Temp failed.  The folder permission setting were supposed to be set to (and an ACL list followed by what looked like a object sid).

I'm running setup as administrator.

I tried to manually set the permissions, but that's not working (access is denied).  I also turned off user account control and hit retry.  That failed to.

So, before I go in there and take ownership of everything on the C drive, and grant myself full control over every file on the computer, I thought I ask for what I'm "supposed" to do.  I'm not going to tolerate this file control crap for very long.  I have better things to do.

SQL Server 2000\2005 compatibility with Active Directory 2012

Hi All,

We are currently using Active Directory 2003 and will be upgrading to AD 2012.  I'm trying to determine if there is any known compatibility issues when running older versions of SQL Server (2000 and 2005) when upgrading to AD 2012.   I've read forums from when others went from AD 2003 to AD 2008 and didn't experience any issues.  We have the newer versions of SQL but I'm not too concerned about these.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated?   Has anyone been through this process.

Thanks,
