Can you tell me what the "feature that failed" I must to remove for upgrade? How can I determine this feature?

Sql Server 2012 Installation

I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Developer edition and I get the error at the bottom.

My system: 64 bit Windows 7

Things I have done:

I have downloaded a different ISO from the MSDN site twice and I still get the same error.

I have trying the installer in Admin mode

FYI Previously I was able to successfully install an instance of Sql 2012 but I need to uninstall it and reinstall.  After the uninstall, I have not been able to reinstall.  Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

\\installserver\data\packages\sqlserver2012sp1\setup.exe /QUIET /ConfigurationFile="C:\ConfigurationFile.ini"

I'm running as local Administrator and the install fails in exactly the same way if I install from a local path (as opposed to my network share).

Running the same command from cmd.exe or powershell succeeds.

Any help would be much appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 Standard R2 Activation

Purchased SQL 2008 Standard R2 through MS Open Licensing. Downloaded the software from the VLSC site, burned to disc and installed on new server. A product activation window poped up asking to either select the enterprise evaluation or enter a product key. There is no product key from the VLSC. Chose the enter a product key option and left the fields blank, and completed the installation. How can we confirm the software is properly activated? Thank you

SQLExpress 2008 and VS2010

I can create a Database Connection from VS 2010 Server Explorer but unable to create a database in App_Data folder (using add new item).  I receive a Warning Dialog Box stating:

"Connections to SQL Server database files (.mdf) require SQL Server 2005 Express  or SQL Server 2008 Express to be installed and running on the local computer......" and tells me where to download SSE.

SQLExpress 2008 r2 is running on local computer (Network Services account).  SSE configuration has the SharedMemory, TCP/IP and NamedPipes all enabled.   I should mention that SSE was installed befored VS2010.

Appreciate any help,

Thanks.

SSMS tools fail to start. Getting message Cannot Find one or more components. Trying to repair SQL 2012 with no luck

Hi!

I had Visual Studio 2010, Visual Studio 2012, SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 Developers edition installed.

As I no longer needed Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008, I removed them from my computer.

When i tried to start the SSMS (SQL 2012) i just get an error (Microsoft Visual Studio Isolated Shell) Cannot find one or more Components. Please reinstall the application.

I did a repair on SQL Server instance and also on common Components.

I did remove the 11.0_Config from the registry.

But no luck. I just don't know what to do. Is there a way to find out just whats missing?

Is there a service pack or something that i need to add?

Any hints, tips etc are greatly appreciated. I am soon going bananas on this :)

With Best Regards

SQL Server Error 5 and 17

$

Hello! I had a server crash yesterday and I recovered my core server, but had to reinstall over SQL. The data was intact and I quickly set up the server. The problem I am now having is that our main system application can connect to the SQL Server in some PCs (example... "DBNAMEPC") while others I've had to input the IP of the SQL machine so they could login. Obviously this has broken some additional programs that depend on calling the SQL Server Name directly. I am having two major errors whenever I try to setup ODBC:

Error 5. SQL STATE = 08001

and

Server Error 17 = SQL Server does not exist.

Image: http://i.imgur.com/VY8Oz0O.jpg

This is using the very same setup used before, same server name, same DB, etc. I just can't get some clients to connect. TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled, Windows Firewall is OFF and even then I set up the 1433 port inbound/outbound rules.

SQL 2008 R2 install error on Windows Server 2012 : specified file not found

Hello,

I'm unable to install SQL 2008 R2 correctly on Windows Server 2012. After few minutes I have a "specified file not found" message. Clicking OK (no other choice) it appears again once then the installation goes on and finishes reporting two errors.

Finally SQL Server instance seems to be installed correctly.

SQL Server version is 2008 R2 with SP2 slipstreamed.

After looking at log file, I found that SQL server tried to invoke "servermanagercmd.exe" (?!?!) which is deprecated in Windows 2012 :

Can SQL Server 2005 w/ SP4, SQL Server 2008 w/SP1 and SQL Server 2012 be installed as separate instances on the same Windows Server 2008 R2 w/ SP1 box?

Is this a supported configuration by Microsoft?

Isapi dll and sql server

I have two isapi dlls on a Windows Server 2003 machine with IIS 6.0. The dlls rely on a adodb connection to a mdb file in the server. A few day ago I've installed on the server machine MS Sql Server 2008 ; the installation has gone fine and I can access sql server files via Management Studio, but the dlls don't work anymore: I get "Internal Server Error" when I call them from the browser (note that the dlls are always connected to the mdb file, not to Sql Server ...). Any ideas?

Connection problem with SQL 2008R2 and SQL 2005 on same server

Windows 2008R2 server had 2 instances of SQL 2005 installed, BACKUPEXEC and ACRONIS.
I installed SQL 2008R2 Express (64 bit), created database, and our software runs fine on the server.
When I try to run our software from a workstation, this error appears:
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: -1
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]SQL Interfaces: Server doesn't support requested protocol [xFFFFFFFF].
Connection Failed:
SQLState: 'HYT00'

SQL Server Error: -1
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL
Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections.

I have tried establishing a connection using ODBCAD32, and I can select the correct instance
using this tool, but I still get exactly the same error message.

Since I am not responsible for the software running on SQL 2005, I am trying to be cautious in making any configuration changes.

The SQL 2005 install is 32 bit, while the SQL 2008R2 install is 64 bit (I can reinstall 32 bit version if this is an issue).

SQL Server Browser is running, but it is the 2005, 32 bit version that is running.

Windows firewall was turned off.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I have Windows 7 with all updates on my Dell laptop. It's a solid state drive, 8 gig of ram, etc, etc,.. Great little laptop..

I'm also running Windows Visual Studio 2012 Pro. I also play with Webmatrix. Anyway, I'm trying to use the Management studio tools, but I always get a message / popup box that says one or more components are missing. Please re install. I've done that, and I've uninstalled several times. I even went and download something when I searched that was an update for SQL server, and it still didn't work.. I can use the old version of Management tools for VS 2008 and it works fine. I don't get it?

Anyway, I also have the SQL server tools for Visual Studio 2012 which I've not played with, but wondering if it has the ability to connect to hosted sql servers? If so, that's all I really need, and the ability to design databases visually such as one can do in the management studio tools, but if SQL server tools for Visual Studio will do the job, I'll just get rid of the Managment tools. Any help would be most appreciated..

Thanks so much.

How to install SQL Server Express 2012 from outside of windows intaller?

Hello.

I am having a problem installing SQL Server 2012 Express on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. The problem is that the installation runs endlessly eventually having to end the task to get out of it. After researching on the internet this is a known problem. The installation gets into an endless loop. It is discussed here:  http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/741476/

At the above url discussion the Microsoft SQL Server team posted this response:

Hi all, thanks for taking the time to report this issue. Installing SQL Server 2012 from within a Windows Installer transaction is not supported. Setup needs to be launched from outside of windows installer and can't be done from a custom action.

thanks,
[SQL Server Team]

I originally thought this meant just download the .exe files and run them. HoweverJonathan Dyke on 10/19/2012 at 5:16 PM (same url) also writes:

Even manually running the The SQL Server 2012 express installation by double clicking on its executable produces the same behavior.

So I have 2 questions:

1. How do I "launch setup from outside of windows installer and not from a custom action"?

2. When I brought down my endlessly looping installation program I was warned that the previous operation of setup would need to be undone before reinstalling (something like that). Do I need to do any cleanup before reinstalling? I was trying to install to C:\Program friles\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLEXRESS and the later directory was not created yet.

Thank you for assisting.

Update built-in to Visual Studio 2013 SQL Server 2012 SP1 up to CU7

I've installed Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate on Windows 8.1 X64 RTM.

Now, when I try to update built-in to Visual Studio 2013 SQL Server up to Cumulative Update #7 I got the following error: « The version of SQL Server instance Shared Component does not match the version expected by the SQL Server update. The installed SQL Server product version is 11.1.3366.16, and the expected SQL Server version is 11.1.3000.0 » and as result upgrade status: «Not applicable ».

The paradox is when I check version of SQL Server via query «select @@version» inside of VS2013 I get result 11.0.3000 and not 11.1.3366.16. How it could be?

Does anybody tried to update built-in to Visual Studio 2013 SQL Server to Cumulative Update 7?

Thanks.

I'm trying to install Windows Azure PowerShell on my Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise laptop. As a prerequisite, it needs to install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB, I but keep receiving an error:

Service 'SQL Server VSS Writer' (SQLWriter) failed to start. Verify that you have
sufficient privileges to start system services.

The service that it tries to use by default is the Local Service. I verified that it has log on as a service privileges and even did a restart. Same error.

any ideas?
